What this calculator does
Type in what you earn before tax and it works out what you take home after income tax and the Medicare levy. It also shows the super your employer pays on top. Choose a year, month, fortnight, week, day or hour.
The 2026–27 rates it uses (residents)
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| $0 – $18,200 | Nil |
| $18,201 – $45,000 | 15% |
| $45,001 – $135,000 | 30% |
| $135,001 – $190,000 | 37% |
| over $190,000 | 45% |
The lowest rate falls from 16% to 15% from 1 July 2026. The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income, reduced or removed for low incomes (nothing below roughly $28,000, phased in up to roughly $35,000). The Low Income Tax Offset takes up to $700 off your tax: the full $700 up to $37,500, easing to $325 at $45,000, and gone by $66,667. Employers pay super at 12% on top of your salary.
What it does not include
- HELP / HECS student loan repayments.
- The Medicare levy surcharge, or private health insurance rebates.
- Working holiday makers and other non-residents, who pay different rates.
- Deductions you claim at tax time. From 1 July 2026 you can also claim a $1,000 work-related deduction without receipts, which shows up in your tax return, not your pay.
- Other income, other offsets, salary sacrifice or novated leases.
Questions people ask
How much tax do I pay on $80,000?
$14,520 income tax plus $1,600 Medicare levy, so about $63,880 take-home a year, or roughly $2,457 a fortnight.
Is my salary before or after super?
Usually before. If your package says “including super”, tick the box and the calculator takes the super out first (12% on top of your cash pay).
Why is my pay slip different?
Your employer withholds tax using ATO tables that can round differently, and any HELP repayment, salary sacrifice or extra deductions change it.
Is anything I type sent to a server?
No. The sums happen in your browser and are gone when you close the page.
